“The National People’s Congress, drawn from the Communist Party’s 99 million members,” this is not true. This is the NPC, not the Party Congress. There are many non-party deputies. Not to say they will object much to party decisions though, but a fact is a fact.

Hi Robert. There are definitely many non-CCP members in the CPPCC. But in the NPC?? I had understood all NPC delegates were party members.

If you look at the list of vice-chairs, half are not CCP. After all, it’s the national congress, not the party congress, and is supposed to be representative of different elements of society, otherwise where does the legitimacy of its law-making “power” comes from?

Yes!

I was also featured in a Chinese media special, “Beautiful female journalists of the NPC” which ran, of course, on International Women’s Day. It is a treasure of quality NPC news coverage.
